Following the parade, the children and their families enjoyed pizza from Vocelli’s. The event was organized by Woodbrook resident Zarina Burdge.

Bargain Hunters Descend on Woodbrook
Woodbrook was jammed this morning as bargain hunters arrived for its first annual neighborhood-wide yard sale. The event was organized by long time Woodbrook resident Heather Rose Dorsey and was open to all Woodbrook residents. Great buys could be found on virtually every Woodbrook street.
The two day event, which runs from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, ends tomorrow Sunday, June 22, 2014.
Woodbrook’s Christmas Lights 2013
It is once again time for our annual Woodbrook Christmas lights photo tour. Capturing Woodbrook at Christmas has been a tradition of this blog since 2009. Some of the displays we photographed in previous years have been retired and some new ones have appeared.
There were noticeably less displays this year, perhaps due to a few rainy weekends in early December. We do our best to capture as many displays as we can in a single evening. Our apologies to those of you whose creative displays we missed or were unable to photograph this year.
WCA Holds Ice Cream Social
Dozens of Woodbrook residents dropped by Woodbrook Elementary School on Sunday to share ice cream and conversation. The event, sponsored by The Woodbrook Community Association, was the first of its kind to be held in the community in over a decade.
Association President Susan Reed briefly addressed the crowd. “The reason we have a community association is to keep the interests of the neighborhood looked at,” said Reed. Following a brief introduction, Ms. Reed took questions from those present.
The event also included free juggling lessons and mini zero balancing sessions for women and children. Home made pies from Family Ties and Pies were available for purchase.

Woodbrook’s Spring Colors 2010
For many Virginians, Memorial Day weekend signals the end of spring and the beginning of summer. We thought we would celebrate the beginning of summer this year with a look back at Woodbrook’s spring colors.
All of the photos in this album were taken inside our neighborhood this spring. We think you will agree with us that Woodbrook’s spring colors are second to none.
We hope you will feel free to share this album with family and friends.
Winter Storm Unites Neighborhood
The fourth biggest storm since recording began found Woodbrook residents pitching in to help each other with the cleanup. “I like how the snow seemed to bring everyone a little closer,” wrote one resident in an email message to this blog. Another resident, Kathy Welch, wrote “Five of our neighbors just appeared spontaneously to help us free up our car so we could go pick up our son at the train station Monday evening.” Kathy’s photo of neighbors-helping-neighbors appears at the top of our slide show.
The storm began in the late afternoon on Friday December 18th and virtually paralyzed the neighborhood until Sunday. Some neighborhood streets went unplowed until as late as Monday. We even snapped a photo of a County snow plow stuck in the snow at the corner of Eastwood and Brentwood.
Our thanks go out to Woodbrook residents Gerry, Jenny, Jonna, Josie, Kathy, Maureen, Rose Mary and William who answered our call for photos. You can view their images in the slide show above.
